No one loves a great scene more than the person who first dreamed it up -- the writer. For Sian Heder, writer and producer on Orange Is the New Black , it's the moment in season two, episode four aptly titled "A Whole Other Hole" when the ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary discover they don't know their anatomy quite as well as they thought they did. Ahead of the Netflix premiere of her feature directorial debut, Tallulah , starring Ellen Page and Allison Janney, Heder opens up to ET about the hilarious and educational moment both on and off screen. In the writers' room we called it "The Vagina Conversation. The whole story started with Ray Ramano in the Men of a Certain Age writers' room, where he asked me where exactly women pee out of, and I couldn't completely answer and neither could anyone else.

It seemed like yesterday when my husband and I were laughing at the episode of Orange is the New Black where Sophia explained the anatomy of a vagina to several Litchfield Prison inmates. Long story short, they didn't know what the heck was in there. Unfortunately, they're not alone, because many women don't know what's in their love boxes, and have never, ever taken a peek under the hood. The sad part is that there are women who would let someone slide a dong, a tongue, a toy, and sometimes vegetables, in their love cave without ever knowing what's going on downstairs.

Orange Is the New Black is beloved for a lot of reasons: It's zany while being tough, sexy without being exploitative, unsentimental but emotionally resonant. It's also a show pretty much entirely based around a large ensemble of women who are not afraid to delve into a whole bevy of under-explored women's issues. It's probably a combination of all of the above that's led to a whole lot of references to vaginas in Orange Is the New Black.
